Headshot of Therese Henman Phillips

Therese’s first caregiving experience as a teenager involved caring for her maternal grandmother, who had Alzheimer’s disease.

Her interests led her to a 35-year career in social work supporting families and children. As a working family caregiver and parent, she was impacted by her father’s diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia and his eventual death in 2019. Currently, she is a caregiver for her mother, who was formally diagnosed in 2024, also with dementia. Her husband is also a family caregiver.

The navigation of the various systems and emotions during these caregiving journeys led her to Caregivers Nova Scotia following her retirement in 2019. Being a caregiver has provided Therese with a unique perspective, experience, and passion. She recognizes both the rewards and challenges of caregiving and feels she has something to contribute to the organization and those they support.
