Pamela-Barkhouse

Pamela Barkhouse has over 30 years of experience in federal government roles focused on entrepreneurship and community economic development. In 2012, she left employed work and became a full-time unpaid caregiver to four family members over the past 12 years. A passionate Patient Family Advisor with Nova Scotia Health, she actively advances people-centered care through speaking engagements, panel work, and co-authorship on the 2024 Person-Centered Care Survey with IFIC. She considers herself an advocate for positive change in health and care and she actively participates in many webinars on person-centered and integrated care. Pamela holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Mount Saint Vincent University and, more recently, completed two credits towards a Diploma in Dementia Care from the University of Tasmania (UTAS), and multiple certifications from the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) from UTAS in understanding dementia, Parkinson’s, Motor Neuron Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury and other neurological conditions.  In 2025, she completed a non-academic micro-credential course, “Caregiving Essentials”, and is currently working on another microcredential course, “Creating Caregiver-Friendly Workplaces”, from McMaster University.
