Elizabeth-Payne

Elizabeth Payne is an award-winning health journalist whose stories became must-reads during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. A focus of her work has been on health care and the elderly. In 2024 she wrote a first-person long-form story about her experience as a caregiver for her elderly father whose health deteriorated, in part, due to issues in the health system including staff shortages and crowding.

Elizabeth and her sisters became caregivers to their father after a fall sent him to the hospital leading to his worsening condition and eventual death. It was an experience Elizabeth wrote about in a long feature called The Fall.
