Agnes-Iwegbu

Dr. Agnes Chinelo Iwegbu, MBBS, MRCGP, CCFP, is a UK-trained family physician with more than two decades of clinical and medical expertise.  Her unwavering dedication to patient-centered care, community outreach, and preventive healthcare has been the cornerstone of her career. She is an assistant professor and academic family physician with Dalhousie Family Medicine, though her healthcare outreach and advocacy extend far beyond Nova Scotia.

Dr. Agnes uses her platform to share culturally relevant, evidence-based information with the public, including Black and racialized Nova Scotians, thereby enhancing health literacy and trust in the medical community. Her online series Talk with Dr. Agnes covers a range of wellness and health topics, including mental health, nutrition, vaccination, and menopause, empowering the audience with valuable knowledge.

She dedicates a significant portion of her work and community outreach efforts to dementia, including participation in speaking events, media interviews, and workshops. She served as a physician liaison with the Alzheimer Society of Canada and helped develop culturally inclusive dementia guidelines, ensuring dementia care is “equitable, accessible, and reflective of diverse communities, particularly those that have been historically underserved.” The publication of her debut book, Michael’s Memories, is one of her proudest accomplishments, as it shares her father’s experience with dementia.

Dr. Agnes is the recipient of the 2025 Doctors Nova Scotia Physician Health Award Promotion Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to health education and advocacy.
