Carmella Cutknife is a nehiyaw iskwew (Cree woman) from Samson Cree Nation (Treaty 6) in Alberta, Canada. She has worked with children and families in a grassroots setting since 2000. In 2018, she became the coordinator for Maskwacis Parents Place and now leads the Indigenous Early Intervention program serving the four First Nations of Maskwacis: Samson (Nipisihkopahk), Ermineskin (Neyaskweyak), Louis Bull (Kispatinahk), and Montana (Ahkamihk), with an approximate population of 20,000 members. Carmella is passionate about building strong community connections and empowering families through traditional teachings and cultural practices. Her passions are traditional birth-work practices, psychology and language revitalization.
