Financial Security: Strengthening E.I. and CPP to Better Support Caregivers

The financial impact of caregiving is immense. Many caregivers work less, retire early, or earn reduced pension payments due to their care responsibilities. Our current social safety net of Employment Insurance, the Canada Pension Plan, and a patchwork of other benefits are not sufficient to meet the current care crisis. This is true for both the one-third of workers who balance work and care and the many others who are out of the labour market. This session will cover how the status quo leaves caregivers behind and how we can design a better financial supports system that recognizes and supports caregivers.
