Awards

The Canadian Caregiving Awards of Excellence recognize outstanding individuals, organizations, research and programs in Canada that have made a meaningful contribution to the lives of caregivers, care providers and recipients in Canada.

The awards will be distributed during the Canadian Caregiving Summit Gala, held on November 3. All summit attendees are welcome to attend this event.

Award categories

The Vickie Cammack Trailblazer Award is awarded to a passionate individual who has demonstrated unwavering dedication to changing the landscape for caregivers and/or care providers in Canada.

Criteria

  • Must be an individual over the age of 18.
  • Must have been active as an advocate (or in another changemaking role) for 10+ years as of nomination date.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the nominee’s long-term contributions to the Canadian caregiving landscape (500 words)
    CV and/or list of significant contributions.
  • Two letters of support from people impacted positively by the nominee.

The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes an organization making an outstanding contribution raising awareness of the experiences and challenges of caregivers in Canada.

Criteria

  • Must be an organization that has been active for 10+ years as of the nomination date.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the organization’s work raising awareness about the realities of caregiving in Canada (500 words).
  • Organization’s recent impact report.
  • List of organization’s significant achievements/awards.
  • Two letters of support from people impacted positively by the nominee.

Caregivers and care providers in Canada need more support from our governments. Advocacy plays a critical role in moving the dial toward a brighter future of care. The Caregiver Advocacy Award recognizes an individual or group that has used their voice to advocate for caregivers in their local or national community.

Criteria

  • Individual(s) must be over the age of 18.
  • Must have been active as an advocate (or advocacy group) in Canada during the 2024 calendar year.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the nominee’s advocacy efforts and impact (300 words).
  • Evidence of impact, such as: media attention on nominee’s advocacy efforts, materials for an event, group or campaign organized by the nominee.
  • Letter of support from someone impacted positively by the nominee.

There are over 1.25 million young caregivers in Canada, providing essential care to parents, siblings and others who need support. Their experiences shape how they interact with the world and their peers, and their needs are often unseen and unmet. The Young Caregiver Advocacy Award goes to an individual or group who have shown exemplary leadership in raising awareness and supporting young caregivers.

Criteria

  • Must be an individual or small team (6 people or fewer).
  • Must have been active as an advocate for young caregivers* in Canada during the 2024 calendar year.

*Caregivers 30 years old or younger.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the individual or team’s impact on young caregivers (300 words).
  • Evidence of impact, such as: media attention on nominee’s advocacy efforts, materials for an event, group or campaign organized by the nominee.
  • Letter of support from someone impacted positively by the nominee, ideally a young caregiver.

Care providers are essential partners in care who support care recipients with daily activities and health needs. Despite the important work that they do, care providers in Canada are often unacknowledged for their role. The Care Provider Leadership Award recognizes an individual who has shown remarkable dedication to the sector, in both the care they provide and creativity towards reforming the sector.

Criteria

  • Must be an individual over the age of 18.
  • Must have been employed as a care provider in Canada during the 2024 calendar year.
  • Must have been active as an advocate in Canada during 2024.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the impact the individual has had on their care recipients and/or the professional care provider sector (300 words).
  • Letter of support from care recipient, supervisor, mentor or co-worker.
  • Evidence of impact, such as: media attention on nominee’s advocacy efforts; materials for an event, group or campaign organized by the nominee.

Renamed in memory of Dr. Janet Fast, a pioneering researcher whose work has significantly deepened our understanding of caregiving in Canada and an advisor to CCCE, the Dr. Janet Fast Research Excellence Award recognizes an individual or team whose academic contributions have advanced knowledge of caregiving and/or the care economy. This includes research on the social, economic, health, and policy dimensions of care, as well as its broader implications for individuals, families, communities, and society.

Criteria

  • Can be an individual or team.
  • Must be affiliated with a research or educational institution in Canada.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the impact of individual or team’s care-related research (500 words).
  • Academic CV(s).
  • Research publication on a care-related topic, such as: the care workforce, the state of care in Canada, gender and care, care in underserved communities.

Across Canada, there a number of small organizations or grassroots groups supporting the immediate needs of caregivers and care recipients. This award recognizes community efforts that fill vital service gaps to support caregivers in their communities.

Criteria

  • Must be a small organization (less than 100 staff) or group (less than 100 members).
  • Must have been active in Canada during the 2024 calendar year.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe the nominee’s impact on local caregivers (300 words).
  • Letter of support from someone impacted positively by the nominee.
  • Promotional or educational materials from nominee’s caregiver support offering(s).
  • Other evidence that demonstrates the organization’s impact, such as program evaluation reports, testimonials from community members.

Individuals and organizations across Canada are developing innovative ways to help make the lives of caregivers easier. This award recognizes a new program or initiative developed by an individual or team that demonstrates outstanding innovation or creativity resulting in positive impact for caregivers.

Criteria

  • Must be an individual or team.
  • Program must have been launched in Canada on or after Jan 1, 2023 Program must be free to participants.

Submission Requirements

  • Describe what makes the program innovative and/or unique (300 words).
  • Describe the impact the program has had on caregivers (300 words).
  • A letter of support from someone positively impacted by the program.
  • Promotional or educational materials from the nominated program.
